A change of heart is not the surge of emotion from a momentary song, however multiplied. It is not the feeling evoked when one is fleetingly exposed to inspiration by beauty or wisdom. A change of heart is a substantial experiential transformation of one's being that reveals us as we are in the context of the surrounding other, enables the dawning of selfless action through the sacrifice of one's attachments, and gives us the strength to struggle with the resistance to change that is presented by our inertial selfish pursuits.
A change of heart surges from within, as experience crystallizes, induced by the inner touch of the creative impulses of Life ever present in the Universe. It is always an internal, intimate, personal and transcendental phenomenon, it cannot be coerced, propagandized, or "marketed". It can only be shared with others who already have it, and when shared, it grows in depth, and positively reinforces the joy, and the compassionate behavior and giving tendencies that stem out from a changed heart.
The world is in the throes of a deep spiritual and material poverty. Many of us living in industrialized societies, empowered by technology, have given free rein to our wants, and have lost contact with our inner realities of consciousness and being, living an empty life, lacking the most basic spiritual needs, and precipitating in turn a profound divide with the rest of the world where many people lack the most basic material needs.
Inner creative forces are being released, and a great number of people, in their height of saturation of weariness with the impoverished narrative being told in today's world, are being touched by these forces.
Their hearts are changing, they are opening, they are beginning to learn about true love. They are naturally seeking and recognizing each other, reverberating in crescendo and supporting each other in understanding their feeling. Like this, they expand the circle of love, by a convening of the changed hearts.
The material adjustment necessary to create a more compassionate and sustainable world will not come out of the dutiful application of mechanistic wealth distribution schemes. Most international institutions define poverty as the lack of basic material needs and avoid the issue of spiritual poverty. However, spiritual poverty is the root cause of our misery.
It is precisely our selfishness, our ignorance in defining our identity boundaries, that generates the “each one to his own†philosophy that prevails in our lives, no matter how subtle our allegiance to the fragmentation worldview is.
When our “being†is defined as ending in the tip of our noses, or at best in the noses of our families or tribes, we are inviting trouble. When all of our predominant narrative is meant to stimulate this love of me, my, mine, we are inviting ourselves to misunderstand the interconnection of all life, and to fail to see the universe as a unified field of being and consciousness.
We are now at a crossroads of evolution, the understanding of the continuum nature of the universe has been deciphered by science. Mind is now corroborating what sages have been saying since time immemorial: “you and I are not we but Oneâ€.
Still, we are prisoners of this idea of magnitude and numbers. We ignore the inner dimension, that holographic reality which reveals that humanity is as much in the one as in the many. Our millennium goals are aimed at solving material hunger and disease in the many, but say nothing about the spiritual hunger and disease in the one and the many, that runs deeper, and actually causes the material need symptoms. We treat the patient for the fever but not for the cause of fever.
A new humanity will not be born out of the assembly of multitudes convened through an “enlightened†propaganda machinery, nor through the application of sophisticated subliminal marketing techniques. It will emerge through the convening of those who have had a change of heart, as an organic network of soul mates from all walks of life.
Sharing their understanding they will reinforce it, and circles of these humans, aware of the oneness of all Life, will multiply throughout the world, not through massive events, nor through the application of superficial campaigns that spread empty concepts in shallow soils, but through epidemic and personal, heart to heart deep-rooted contacts.
A new humanity is being born out of these relations. This is the love that will change the world. We are all being invited, when we are, to participate in this sharing to "build the new music and sing the new architecture."
